Would You Like A Pet Silkworm?

Over the last few weeks 1R and 1P have been looking after silk worms. They have loved feeding the silkworms and watching them grow.  As the silk worms have grown they have become too big and we need to re-home a few. If your child would like to take a silkworm home to have as a pet, they can bring in a jar or shoe box to school. All they need to look after the silkworms is a container preferably a cardboard box and lots of mulberry leaves. This website has lots of information on how to look after silkworms.

Welcome Miss Bolton!

Dear Parents and Care Givers,

Over the next four weeks I will be helping out in the year 1R classroom as well as teaching lessons. This is part of my 2nd year Bachelor of Education degree which I am completing at Edith Cowan University in Bunbury. I will be working with the students in small groups and whole class activities. To help you get to know me better I have written a little bit about myself.

I was born in Zimbabwe and have always loved animals. Many of my earliest memories are with some of Africa's most amazing animals. Since a young age I have always wanted to be a teacher as I have always loved school and had positive relationships with my teachers. Later when I moved to Australia I developed my passion for the outdoors and adventure. I have scuba dived on the SWAN wreck, sailed Shark Bay and climbed to the top of the highest treetop lookout in the world. Just to name a few of my amazing adventures. I love animals. I have two dogs, Dexter and Duke. Sebastian is my ginger cat who loves to help me prepare for lessons.

I am looking forward to getting to know both you and the students. If you have any questions regarding our role in the classroom over this period, please don’t hesitate to speak to me.

Term 4 Update

Good Afternoon Parents,
I hope you all had a lovely holiday with your children over the past two weeks. We certainly had some exciting holiday news to share with each other this morning! Here are a few things to not as we commence Term Four of Year One.

Think Mentals/Homework
Next Friday 20th October units 16 and 17 are due to be completed in the Think Mentals book. Sight words and home readers are continuing as a part of our homework program in Term Four. Please remember to note each text that your child reads in their reading logs to avoid the same readers going home multiple times.

Calendar Orders
Our Calendar Art is in a display file by the classroom door. If you would like to purchase your child's artwork orders need to be in by this Friday 13th October.

Prac Student
Next week we will have Miss Amy Bolton commencing her four week teaching prac in our classroom. The Year Ones already had a visit from Miss Bolton last term. Stay tuned for more information about Miss Bolton on our upcoming blog posts.

Rosters
The news roster for Term 4 went home last term and our Parent Help Roster is up on the pin up board outside the classroom. Due to Miss Bolton being here from weeks 2-5 we are not requesting parent help until week 6 of this term.

Assembly
Year 1R and 1P are coming together to present a Prayer Assembly on Friday 20th October (week 2). By then end of this week, some children will have reading parts to practice in their homework folders. Your assistance with helping at home is much appreciated!

Have a great first week!
