A Visit to Wonnerup House

The children were very excited to be in their 'Olden Day' clothes and loved comparing the clothing from the Olden Days to today. We hopped on the bus and although there were a lot of 'are we there yet?' questions, the children were excited to be going to visit 'the old place where they had no internet' - as quoted by one of the children.

We started the excursion with a 15 minute video about the history of Wonnerup House to which we found out that the whole community burnt down and had to be rebuilt! We also learnt about the Layman Family who lived at Wonnerup House amongst the beautiful Tuart Forest that surrounds the property.

We then set off in our groups with our wonderful parent helpers and started to explore the amazing grounds. We visited The Main House, The Black Smith shop, The Stables, The Dairy Kitchen and finally (and a personal) favourite The old School House. The children loved learning about all the olden day items like the wash board, the chamber pot, the Grandfather clock and many more!

We would like to thank our parent helpers from both Year One classes who made the day possible by meeting us at Wonnerup House and showing the children around the property. This excursion would not have been possible without you!

Wonnerup House Information

Wonnerup House Excursion
The children are getting excited for their excursion tomorrow, especially at the chance to dress up as children from the 'Olden Days'! We ask for your child to bring recess, lunch and a water bottle in a small backpack/carry bag. When they get to school we will make sure that they also pack their hats. We are keeping our fingers crossed for lovely weather to explore the grounds of Wonnerup House!

Many thanks to our parent helpers who have volunteered to come along. We will meet you at the property at 10:30am. Don't forget your 'Olden Day's costume and a bite to eat for the day.

A Warm Welcome to Mrs Anne Coltrinari

Tomorrow we welcome Mrs Anne Coltrinari who is currently studying her Certificate Four in Education Support at South Regional TAFE, Busselton.

As part of Anne's training, she is required to complete a 15 day placement in the classroom and we are lucky enough to have her with us in Year One at OLC. We look forward to having you join us in Year 1S and working with us over the next few weeks Mrs Coltrinari!

OLC Faction Carnival

On Friday 7th of September, OLC held their annual faction carnival.  It was a wonderful day and the children came to school extremely excited to start the carnival!

The children looked outstanding in their coloured zinc, face paint and  coloured hairspray! The excitement continued as the children went into their faction bays and loved joining in with the older children cheering for their team.

I'm not sure, but I think the motivation of lollies from the faction captains might have made the children cheer extra hard. The running races were a great indication of just how fast our year ones are! They would definitely leave me behind in the 50m sprint!

The team games were a hit and I think the favourites of the day had to be 'stone, bridge, tree', the sack race and the flag relay!

Congratulations to our runner up champion boy Harper and our champion boy Lawson and our runner up champion girl Sofia and champion girl Charli.

A big thank you to all the parents who helped with the event coordination, the set up and pack up and a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Sinclair for the wonderful day she put together.

Book Week Dress Up

Have a look at our gorgeous Book Week characters in their costumes last week. We were lucky enough to be entertained by author DC Green in the morning and all had our turn of speaking in the microphone to name our Book Week characters.

Stay tuned for the character descriptions that we have been working on!

Wonnerup House Visit

Dear Parents

This week a permission letter will go home about our upcoming excursion to Wonnerup House.
In History, we have been learning about school and home life in the olden days and our visit to Wonnerup House will give us a first hand look at what life was like in the past. For a bit of fun on the excursion day, we plan to dress up as children of the past, similar to the examples below.

We will enjoy morning tea and lunch at the venue and have our fingers crossed for a lovely day of sunshine. Please keep an eye out for the permission note in your children's homework folders this afternoon. We will also be looking for parent helpers to meet us at Wonnerup House on the day to assist with group activities. Please email me if you are interested, or fill out your interest in the letter and we will get back to you with confirmation.

Thank you!

Mrs Sherborne
