Plastic bottles needed for Science

Plastic Bottles needed!

In Science this week, we are creating our own clouds in a bottle. If you have any clear plastic bottles - with no labels at home, we would love to have them by this Thursday or Friday. Please drop them into Year 1P anytime this week. Thank you in advance :)

Thank you

Week 2

Assembly
FOUR more days until our class assembly! We have been practising our parts at school, singing our hearts out and working out where we need to be on the stage. How are costumes coming along? From what I’ve been hearing, I think most people have been able to borrow or construct a simple pirate costume. Thanks Lauren Heitman for bringing in a textbook example of a pair of parrot wings, love your work! If you have not yet put your child’s parrot wings together we do have plenty of coloured card in the classroom that you are welcome to take home today. Our beaks are ready made at school and will be laid out on the morning for the children to wear. We also have eye patches for the pirates if you don’t already have one. Please bring your children to school on time in costume and ensure that they have their sports uniform, socks and shoes in their bag to change into later. We will head across to the hall as soon as the bell rings. I really appreciate all the help and support you have been giving with assembly costumes and reading parts. The children are very excited to perform for you all!

Think Mentals
A reminder that the children are asked to complete Units 6 and 7 by the end of this week in their Think Mentals books. Please remind the children to place their books in the green basket this Friday morning. Thank you.

Sight Words
Sight words are still a part of regular homework routine this term. At times we also use the children’s personal sight words in class for various activities, so please remember to have them in your child’s homework folders each day.

Readers

Readers are still being exchanged on a Monday and Wednesday. The children and given two nights with the same reader to help build confidence and encourage familiarity with the text.

Have a great week and stay tuned for our next blog post on Mission Markets!

Welcome Back Everyone!

Our Class Assembly
The Year 1R Assembly is fast approaching in Week 2 of this term (Friday 28th July). We have started learning our songs and reading parts will go home early this week. Please endeavour to practise these reading parts nightly with your child at home. I would like to ask parents to organise a simple costume for your child for the assembly. Costumes are as follows:
·         Parrots: See the ideas below for parrot wings. We will make the beaks at school and have plenty of coloured card that you are welcome to take to cut out for feathers on the wings. The children can just wear colourful clothing and all that needs to be made is a set of wings.  If anyone has any other ideas, or would like to offer your creativity to contribute to these costumes your help would be very much appreciated!
·         Pirates: Keep it simple! If you have a ready-made pirate outfit out home feel free to dress your child in that. Otherwise a striped t-shirt/jumper and jeans with a bandana/pirate hat and eye patch would work. See the picture below for ideas.

Think Mentals
A reminder that we now complete one unit per week in our Think Mentals homework books. Unit 6 and 7 will both be due for signing on Friday 28th July (Week 2).

Enjoy your last day of holidays everyone. I look forward to seeing all of you back at school tomorrow. Bring on Term 3!
