Grandparent’s Day was a huge success! We had almost half of
our hall filled with grandparents from families across the whole school for our
prayer service in the morning. Afterwards, our grandparents had a bite to eat
and a cup of tea and then they shared in some learning experiences with their Year One
grandchildren in the classroom. We spent some time reading to our grandparents,
showing them what we can learn on the ipads and painting pictures of each other
with water-colour paints. Some of our grandparents traveled far and wide to be
with us on Grandparent’s Day and we thank them all for joining us on this
special occasion.

End of term treat for Year Ones!
To celebrate the outstanding term we have had, the children will be watching the movie 'The Ant Bully' (rated G) which focus' on our Science unit of MiniBeasts and it also ties into our Friendology program of 'Standing up for yourself'.
We will be watching his on Friday as a co-hort between recess and lunch after our English block.
We are really excited to reflect on our learning and find different parts of the film that correlate with our findings.
If you have any questions or concerns please email me.
Thank you
Miss Rundle

We are Halfway Through Year One!
Sight Words
This week, a
revision sheet will go home with your child for the first 100 sight words. All
of the children have been retested and on the first 100 words and the words
that have been spelled incorrectly are written on your child’s revision sheet.
If you get time over the holidays could you please practise these words with
your child to help them master the first 100.
Homework
This week
the only homework that we are sending home is sight words. Readers are going
back to the Library and all Comprehension Packs will not go home again until
next term. If you have any overdue Comprehension Packs, please send them back
to school, along with all readers on Monday. As of Week One next term, the students
are asked to complete one unit per week in their Think Mentals books.
The Think Mentals will be collected fortnightly for signing. If you could
please continue to mark your child’s work as they complete it to give them
immediate feedback it would be much appreciated. Unit 6 and Unit 7 will be
due on Friday 28th July (end of Week 2).
Grandparent’s Day
A reminder
that all Grandparents are invited to our annual Grandparent’s Day this Tuesday.
Our Prayer Service begins at 9am in the hall, followed by morning tea at 9:30am
and classrooms will be open from 10am to 11 am. In Year One the children will
complete 3 activities during that time – one in 1R, one in 1P and another in
the Wet Area. Grandparents are invited to come in across this time and find
their Grandchild who will show them what they have been learning about in Year
One.
Assembly
The Year 1R performance
assembly will be held on Friday of Week Two (28th July). Stay tuned
for reading parts and what to wear on the day. We have been practising the
words to a song that our class is loving at the moment. Click on the link to
the song so that your child can practise the lyrics at home. We have been a bit
ambitious, as the verses are quite fast!
Happy Week
10 and I hope you all have a lovely holiday with your family!

Term 2 Spelling Review
Good evening parents,
Below are the sounds that your children have been learning for the past 8 weeks in their spelling rotations. Next Monday we will be having our term spelling review to test their knowledge of sounds. Below is a table with all the sounds that you children have been learning. They will be able to tell you what group they are in, but please email me if you need clarification.
A way you can help them is to call out a word with that particular sound for them to write down on a scrap piece of paper eg. if you child is in the blue group you can use the 'tr' sound, ask your child to write down the word trip, trap, train and so on.
If you need any more information, please email me to let me know.
Many Thanks
Miss Rundle

Think Mentals Unit 5
Thank you to all of the children's who handed in their unit 4 of their Think Mentals. From all accounts I can safely say that the children are enjoying the Math challenge as a part of their homework routine.
If the children finish the unit early, please feel free to drop it into class so you can tick it off your list.
Unit 5 will be due on the 23rd of June (week 9) and this will be the last unit for the term. Next term the children will be completing one unit per week but the book will be handed in every two weeks for checking by the teacher.
If you have any questions or queries, please let me know.
Many thanks

Bug Catcher Bonanza!
On Friday between recess and Year 1R and Year 1P tackled the challenge of creating their very own bug catchers. After weeks of planning and designing their own creations, the children were delighted to be able to finally put their ideas into action! We are very thankful for all of our hands on parent helpers who gave up part of their Friday to sticky tape, hot glue and assist with refining the Year 1's designs. The project would not have happened without you!
After lunch, the Year 1's set off on an expedition into the bush to find as many bugs as they could. We came across a number of bees, spiders ants and one VERY LARGE bull ant. We discussed how we need to be safe when hunting for bugs, as well as how we also have the option of setting our bugs free after viewing them in our bug catchers. We hope you all had a lovely weekend exploring, hunting and collecting bugs!
